About

Liz works from Monday to Friday from her base in Melbourn. Parking is usually available in Cedar Close.

As a keen sportswoman, Liz first discovered the benefits of sports massage after completing her first half-Ironman distance triathlon. The positive effects she experienced from this massage led her subsequently to changing her career from language teacher to massage therapist.

Liz qualified with a BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Professional Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy at the North London School of Sports Massage (NLSSM) – a highly regarded school for Sport and Remedial Massage.

Since qualifying in 2018 Liz has continued to expand her skill set and has attended several 2-day Myofascial Release courses with Myofascial Release UK and now integrates advanced myofascial release techniques in her treatment.

Currently Liz continues to participate in triathlon and is training for another long distance event as well as running a marathon next spring. She understands the time and dedication required to reach your goals and how important it is to stay injury-free. She also knows the desire to return to training as quickly as possible after injury or time-out. So whether you are suffering from a training injury, enduring chronic pain, wish to improve your posture or wish to seek a massage to remain free from injury, Liz will create a treatment plan for you.

During her training Liz provided massage at a number of long distance sporting events and completed an internship at a massage clinic in Cambridge. She continues to enjoy volunteering at sporting events and recently helped a charity team at the 2023 London Marathon.

FAQ

What is Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a set of specialised massage techniques for the treatment of soft tissue, especially muscle, tendon or ligament problems.

Is Sport and Remedial Massage right for me?

You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage – incorrect posture and repetitive actions can create tension and muscular imbalances which can benefit from massage. It is appropriate for anyone who is in need of remedial or soft tissue work irrespective of age, level of fitness or gender.

What should I expect?

During your first appointment Liz will complete an intake form with you, in order to:

– ascertain a full medical history;
– find out the reason for your visit;
– determine the priorities for treatment.

Liz will then carry out some postural analysis and range of motion testing followed by the appropriate massage treatment.

Following the treatment Liz will provide aftercare for the client, if appropriate, in the form of stretching and strengthening exercises to build on the work achieved during the session.

If there is anything Liz is unsure of, she will refer you on to someone who can help.

What should I wear?

During your treatment you may be asked to remove clothing. This will only be the necessary items of clothing appropriate for the area being worked on. Underwear will remain worn at all times. Your privacy and dignity will be ensured with towels, with only the part of the body we are working on exposed. You may bring a pair of loose fitting comfortable shorts.

Are there any after-effects?

After your appointment it is important to drink water. Liz will discuss with you any anticipated side effects before commencing treatment. Due to the effects on your body some treatments may leave you feeling tired or dehydrated unless you drink sufficient fluids.

You may find that you encounter some stiffness or tenderness in your muscles for the few days following treatment. This is not uncommon and is an indication that the treatment has had effect. It can be likened to the stiffness you encounter following exercise which you are not accustomed to. If you experience any severe increases in pain or new symptoms that were not discussed with your practitioner then seek appropriate medical advice.

Is there any reason I should not have a massage?

In certain conditions, massage is not recommended, or it may be necessary to acquire consent from your GP. Liz will not undertake sports massage if you are suffering with any of the following:

• Deep vein thrombosis
• Pregnancy
• Cancer
• Acute injuries
• Fractures
• Recent surgery
• Fever or illness
• Infectious skin conditions

This is not a comprehensible list, so if you are unsure if massage is suitable for you then please contact Liz to discuss the matter further.

Does massage hurt?

“Massage does not have to hurt to be effective”.

Massage is most effective when you are relaxed and comfortable. During the session Liz will continually check with you that the pressure is ok and, if you experience pain, will always adjust her pressure accordingly.

How many sessions do I need to reap the benefits of sports massage?

This will depend on the reason you are seeing a massage therapist. A one-off session will likely lead to short term relief whereas regular sessions have long term benefits, often when used in conjunction with post-care exercises. For those training for a competition or recovering from an injury a number of sessions may be recommended before or after an event, or a specific rehabilitation plan may be formulated.

How much for a session?

Session Time Price
Initial Consultation 1 hour £45
60 minute sports massage 1 hour £45

 Initial Consultation and Assessment – 1hr – £45

For new clients – Liz will start this session with a thorough consultation including the completion of a medical questionnaire, a discussion of any injury history, goals and expectations, sport or hobbies, occupation and lifestyle and may assess your posture and carry out range of motion testing to assess joints and muscles. A full medical history alongside health and lifestyle information will help determine if there are any reasons that make massage inadvisable. This appointment will usually take one hour, but Liz may wish to spend extra time on discussion, so please allow an extra 15 minutes for this session.

60 minute Sports Massage – 1hr – £45

For each subsequent session, Liz will carry out a brief consultation to discuss your progress, followed by a program of treatment suited to your needs.
